The AERO - a success story
AERO has also benefited from Friedrichshafen as a cradle of aviation, which was established in 1900 by Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin and his famous Zeppelin airships, followed by Hugo Eckener and also Claude Dornier founder of the famous aircraft manufacturer Dornier Werke.
In the 80s and 90s the booming UL industry lead by innovations in composite also from Eastern Europe grew the show further. In 1995, the Business Aviation section was introduced at AERO for the first time. In addition, the trade show significantly expanded its offerings in the areas of avionics, maintenance and aviation services in the following years.
The move to the new modern venue halls at the airport followed in 2002. AERO is one of the few trade fairs to have its own taxiway to the exhibition center and an infrastructure allowing aircraft in every hall which is still unique in Europe. The focus of the trade show on innovation in aviation and future topics has always driven the growth of AERO and made it the world's leading trade show for innovations in General Aviation that it is today.
Since 2022, AERO is organized by fairnamic GmbH, a joint venture between Messe Frankfurt and Messe Friedrichshafen.
