Prof. Dr. Mirko Hornung has been the Executive Board Member for Science and Technology at Bauhaus Luftfahrt since January 2010. At the same time, he was appointed Professor at the Chair of Aeronautical Systems at the Technical University of Munich. From 2003 to 2009, he held various senior positions at EADS Deutschland GmbH, in the "Military Air Systems" department, most recently working as "Senior Manager System Concept Design."
In January 2003, Mirko Hornung earned his Ph.D. from the Institute of Aerospace Technology at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, with distinction, on the topic "Design of an Airbreathing Upper Stage and Overall Optimization of a Trans-Atmospheric Space Transportation System."
He holds other significant positions in aviation research, including being a member of the European Commission’s "Transport Advisory Group" and currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Body of Clean Aviation JU. From 2012 to 2021, he was a member of the executive board of the German Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics (DGLR). He is also a founding member of the "Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e. V. (aireg)."
Since July 2010, he has been a member of the General Assembly (and since October 2018, a board member) of "Munich Aerospace" e. V. and a member of the Coordination Council for the Ludwig Bölkow Campus.
